Places to Visit in New York: Smorgasburg Brooklyn
Welcome back to "Places to Visit in New York," the series! Today, I want to talk about another Brooklyn hot spot, Smorgasburg! Dubbed by the New York Times as the "Woodstock of Eating," Smorgasburg Brooklyn is one of the largest outdoor food markets in the United States with over 100 local vendors. It takes place on Saturdays at East River Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Make sure to bring sunscreen on sunny days, an umbrella on rainy ones, cash (there are ATMs on site and some vendors accept major credit/debit cards), a picnic blanket, a refillable water bottle (there are free water-filling stations on site), your appetite, and some friends! Thousands of people flock to the waterfront each weekend for Smorgasburg so make sure to also bring your patience!
I advise to take public transportation to Smorgasburg as parking can be impossible to find. I took an Uber from my home to the market, and had to get out a little over a block away because traffic was jammed.
If you're looking for an extra kick with your meal, head over to Smorgasburg's beer garden. There they sell beer, wine, and cocktails. Just make sure to be 21+ with a valid ID (because they will check). However, the beer garden is family-friendly so if you're not old enough to drink you can still hang out there with those who are!
