How I Fight Acne Post-Accutane

Let’s be honest, I still get pimples. Accutane did it’s job by taking care of my painful hormonal cystic acne, BUT I still break out here and there due to my cycle, eating shitty, or *cringes* falling asleep in my makeup.

I’m definitely not considering another round of Accutane at this point in my life (there’s just too much shit going on to be worried about random nose-bleeds in public), so I’ve been working on finding daily solutions to my current breakouts. And I think I’ve nailed down a super easy, bomb routine.

Let’s get into it, shall we:

Makeup Remover

To remove my makeup I’ve been using The Original Makeup Eraser with warm water. I’ve actually been using this product going on four years now and I just got a new one at this year’s LA Beauty Con (so I’m hyped)!

I switched out my super expensive cleanser that I shared in my last skincare routine for one that is a lot cheaper and more easily accessible. I’ve been using Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Face Wash Cream Cleanser morning and night to remove makeup residue, refresh my skin, and combat acne. I love it’s creamy texture and cooling sensation. Plus it’s $50 cheaper than the cleanser I was using previously (ya, I don’t know what I was thinking either).

Direct Acids & Masks

The Ordinary

This is the BIG one ladies and gentlemen, so get your pen and paper. I started using The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution twice a week, or when I’m suffering from a major breakout. OMGGG the results are insane!

If I have a bump that hasn’t formed into a head, this acid will bring it to the surface and dry it out immediately. 48 hours after using this peeling solution my skin is CLEAR again! It’s truly a lifesaver and I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

I use the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution at night after I’ve cleansed and dried my face (you can’t apply it to wet skin). It looks a little scary and smells even scarier, but trust me when I say, it’ll only burn for a second (lmfao no seriously though). I leave it on for 10 minutes, which is the max time recommended. Then I wash it off with warm water and continue with the rest of my routine.

Toner & Moisturizer

The rest of my skincare routine hasn’t changed that much. I’m still using Thayers' Witch Hazel Aloe Vera Formula alcohol-free toner in the Rose Petal Scent morning and night, followed up with Aveeno's Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer.

That’s it! I told you this was a super easy routine! Comment below your holy grail products for clear skin!
